Many people are unable to remember their dreams and even think they do not dream because of this laps in memory. However, according to dream experts, humans dream at least 4 – 6 times a night, usually during active REM stage sleep.
Most of our dreams are forgotten shortly after waking. That is why it is important to document your dreams if you want to explore their meaning. By keeping a journal on your nightstand and writing down what you remember when you first awake, you will have the data needed to begin dream analysis and interpretation.
Journals help you track the themes, moods, people, subject matter, and symbols of your subconscious. As with all habits, it takes a while to become good at following your dream activity. Sometimes you forget to write it down, other times you may not even know what you wrote due to drowsiness upon waking. But with time, we can all become accomplished dream historians. Then begins the analysis, personal growth, and insight from dream activity.
